The 4C's

Connections: The main connection in the video and the article was child soldiers. Ishmael Beah had many similarities until he got in the war like family, going out with his older brother, very similar to what teenagers do in their lives. He was running from one village to another and finding his family but suddenly he lost his family. Violence is learned behavior; people learn what they see or they get influenced by others. In order to train someone in violence the first step is desensitization. They would kill people in front of them. We start exposing kids to violence when they are six or seven and they don’t know anything about real life and fantasy in video games. It also emphasizes impact of adults on children and role and responsibility of adults to children. Child soldiers are very purposeful. It is very clear about what they are doing.

Challenges: Indicating not all are affected by video games. There are a number of variables which create violence in kids. For example; the family they are raised in, if they are victims of abuse, if they witness abuse, and as well family values are that have an impact on life.  Nothing in life is never, and nothing in life is always. You cannot paint every child with the same brush because every kid is unique.

Concepts: Children can be shaped and modified. Therefore, the adults in their lives have a huge responsibility. Someone once said “do as I say not as I do”. They watch the adults. The video shows the concept that we have no right to take advantage of child soldiers. We need to protect our children and others too. Whereas for text, caregivers need to be aware of proper care of children so that they grow up into emotionally healthy adults. Child soldiers are horrible and need to be avoidable.

Changes: We should be aware of what is happening in the world and we should help to get rid of child soldiers. We should be investing money specifically for the protection of the children in the country. They need to be protected and educated.

Summary of The Sniper by Liam O' Flaherty

Lian O' Flaherty's short story "The Sniper" focuses on the central character, an unnamed Republican Sniper stationed at night, on the roof near the O'Connell Bridge. This young man decides to take a chance and have a cigarette. This results in him being seen by an elderly women on the sidewalk. She then alerts a soldier in an armored car. The sniper proceeds to shoot and kill both of them. This causes return fire from a Free States sniper on a nearby building. When the Republican sniper is wounded in the arm, he uses this to his advantage by pretending that he is seriously wounded. This causes the other sniper to move in for the kill. When he does so, the Republican sniper is able to shoot him. Out of curiosity he turns over the dead sniper only to discover that it is his own brother. 

ISU Task 4: Blog 2

This picture is related to the novel Brave New World, because in this novel everyone is born in hatcheries, assigned their castes, and conditioned to expects their castes. In this dystopian society, technology rules every aspect of life, even religion. In the novel Brave New World, everyone are controlled by science and technology. Humans now believe in god but in this novel they have eliminated the concept of "God" and replaced it with Henry Ford as their inspiration and ruler. Babies are not born the natural way, but rather produced from bottles in a lab. 

Slam Poetry

In a Brave New World, we can have Life without pain and sorrow,

Everything is predictable, for every tomorrow

Well, who needs love anyway?

It only causes pain and grief,

For parents, children, lovers, friends.

The crying, the anger, the sorrow-

But wait! After sorrow comes joy

After crying comes laughter,

After anger comes forgiveness.

This is what make me real.

So please, let me feel.

Opinion on WAR

War is always devastating and results in the tragic loss of countless innocent lives. In a perfect world war would not be necessary because all leaders would be rational and could peacefully work things out. However, the sad truth is that there is great deal of evil in human nature. When this evil shows itself in the likes of manic, like Adolf Hitler, for example, then other countries often have no choice but to fight back. Their only other option would be submission and/ or destruction. 

Task 4: Blog 1 for ISU

The main social issue in the novel Brave New World is children are conditioned from the movement artificial conception to be a certain level of intelligence. This social issue is connected with the passage Genius Without The Genetics by John Mighton because I think they born into specific level of society and remain their for their whole lives. There is never any expectations that they rise above their stations. Unfortunately this prejudgment of children can also hold true in our current education system. If children at young age are labeled as low functioning or limited in some way, often there is little expectation that they will improve. When the author says, "a product of the way the children are taught."  I think that is absolutely true because in the novel Brave New World they eliminated families which means Mother, Father, Sister and Brother so they doesn't know anything about love and they are an artistic child. In Brave New World they doesn't teach kids what is the true meaning of love and how we should treat people.  

Newspaper Report: The Sniper

Has survival in Dublin become impossible?

Three citizens killed due to civil war.

June 21^st, 1920

DUBLIN- Last night, the city of Dublin was rocked by gun fire which left three people dead. The perpetrator was a Republican sniper. In exchange for his information, our newspaper has promised him anonymity.

 While keeping watch on a building near the O'Connell Bridge and smoking a cigarette, the Sniper was noticed by civilian McGuire, age 62. When she proceeded to inform our Lieutenant Shame McAvella about this Sniper, he immediately shot and killed both of them.

Nearby was a Sniper from our forces. This man then shot and wounded the Republican Sniper. In the exchange of gun fire that followed, the Republican Sniper killed our Sniper. When checking for his enemy's identity. He discovered that the fallen Sniper was , in fact, his own brother. His sole comment has been a repeated lament: "I didn't even know my brother was in the war."

In response to these events Colonel Michael Williams has doubled the presence of armed forces on the streets of Dublin. "We must do all we can to prevent further tragedies," he explained.
